Named after local painter Luigi Candiani, this versatile space was conceived in the 1970s as a hub for creativity and cultural exchange within the community.

Today, it continues to thrive as a dynamic venue: think art exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, workshops, and hands-on activities for all ages. Inside, you’ll find two spacious exhibition halls, a 200-seat auditorium, a modern conference room, and areas dedicated to educational projects. The ground floor welcomes visitors with a sleek lobby complete with a café, bookshop, and ticket office. Since 2013, it has also been home to IMG Cinemas—a six-screen multiplex with over 1,200 seats.

Since 2016, the Candiani has become a lively stage for modern and contemporary art in Mestre, hosting Cortocircuito. Dialogue Between the Centuries, a series curated by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia that brings together Venetian and international collections in conversation across time. Since 2018, it has also showcased the finalists of the Mestre Painting Prize (Premio Mestre di Pittura), celebrating contemporary artistic talent in all its forms.

From April 2026, MUVEC – Casa delle Contemporaneità will open as a new space dedicated to contemporary art by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, developed in collaboration with the Comune di Venezia.

The museum is arranged over two floors and will present a permanent collection of art from 1948 to the present, drawing on the civic collections held at Ca’ Pesaro, alongside an area for temporary exhibitions, with additional spaces for educational activities and workshops.
