"Open for work"

Ensuring accessibility to some locations in the historic centre of Venice by taking advantage of the renovation of a bridge: this is the philosophy of "Aperto per lavori", a new project developed jointly by the City of Venice and Insula SpA. A play on words for a simple but innovative idea.
When a bridge is under restoration a footbridge is placed in its vicinity, albeit temporarily, making accessible some areas of the city which would otherwise be precluded to citizens and tourists with motor disabilities, allowing them to visit new locations, palaces, churches or museums. In March 2006, for example, it was possible for disabled people to access the Clock Tower in St. Mark’s sqare, thanks to a lift (elevator) set up for the restoration of the monument. See the initiative in detail
To raise awareness of the Città per tutti (City for all) project, the City of Venice will launch an information campaign directly involving trade associations. In addition to providing all the information online through the website, itineraries will be specifically prepared to enhance the area of the city affected by redevelopment intervention. These new routes, available in both paper and electronic formats, will enrich itineraries without barriers already on offer at the Municipality’s website.
